A multilingual website in Luxembourg: choosing and organising languages
Choose your website’s languages, organise translations and plan how to keep them up to date.
In Luxembourg and the surrounding border regions, your contacts may prefer French, German, Luxembourgish or English. Your customers, your activity and your ability to keep content up to date should guide your website’s language choices.
More than a translation
Each language version should present your services and let visitors contact you. This means:
- separate, stable addresses, such as /fr/, /de/ and /en/;
- a language switcher that stays on the equivalent page when a translation exists;
- reviewed text, consistent contact details and a usable form in each language.
The effect on your visibility
hreflang annotations help Google connect the language versions of a page. They do not guarantee indexing or a higher ranking. Each version still needs text that answers visitors’ questions, headings that describe the pages and links to navigate between them.
Two complete, maintained versions are a better starting point than four partial translations. Enquiries and search data can then help you choose which languages to add.
What to plan from the start
Together, we define the priority languages, the pages to translate and who approves the text. We then check navigation, links between translations and search engine information for each version.
