Core Web Vitals: understand and improve your website’s speed
Loading, responsiveness and stability: three ways to assess the visitor experience and track improvements.
An image that takes too long to appear or a button that moves during loading gets in the way of browsing. Performance measurements help identify these problems, including on mobile. The aim is for visitors to read about your services and contact you.
What are Core Web Vitals?
These metrics describe three aspects of the page experience:
- LCP: the time until the largest visible element appears.
- INP: how responsively the page handles interactions.
- CLS: unexpected movements of elements on the page.
Measure before changing things
PageSpeed Insights helps identify problems and suggests technical improvements. Its simulated tests differ from data collected during real visits. A small, new site may not have enough of that field data yet. When available, Search Console also lets you follow the Core Web Vitals of your pages.
A good score does not guarantee a Google position or more sales. Visitors also need to understand what you offer and find out how to contact you.
Practical improvements
Appropriately sized images, fewer unnecessary scripts and reserved space for media are often useful first steps. Static rendering can reduce the work needed for each visit, but results also depend on hosting, network conditions and content.
At Nuvo, we examine the affected pages and devices, then compare measurements before and after the changes. We agree with you which pages to work on and which results to check.
